Six Kinds of Work, and Most Golfers Only Ever Need Three

Baseline session

Ninety minutes. This is the first appointment for anybody who has not been here before, and it is the only one that produces a complete file. We gauge the set you own — every iron and wedge for loft, lie, length, and swing weight, plus grip condition and shaft frequency where it matters — then watch you deliver the club and record where static build and dynamic delivery disagree.

You leave with a printed sheet. Whether that sheet leads to a purchase, a bend, or nothing at all is a separate conversation that happens afterwards, usually by email once you have had a day to think.

Not for: a golfer who wants a single driver head comparison. That is faster and cheaper as single club work.

Single club fitting

Sixty minutes on one club category. Driver, fairway, hybrid, one wedge, or a putter. We work from your current club as the control and change one variable at a time, because a session that swaps head and shaft simultaneously tells you almost nothing about which change did the work.

Full set build

Two appointments plus bench time. The first session is a baseline; the second is a build review where you hit the assembled set before it goes home. Between them, Ansel does the assembly here, which means tip prep, shim work if a bore runs loose, controlled epoxy cure, and a final weight and length check that gets written on your sheet.

Turnaround depends on component lead time rather than our bench — typically two to four weeks for stock offerings, longer for anything custom from a small shaft house. We give you a date and we update it if it moves.

Bend and lie check

Thirty to forty-five minutes, no hitting required unless you want it. We put every iron and wedge on the machine, read the current loft and lie, compare against your file, and bend anything that has moved back to spec. On a set with an existing file this is a comparison and it is quick.

This is the single most under-used service in the business. Cast heads move less than forged ones but they still move, and the drift is gradual enough that no golfer ever notices it happening. If you play sixty rounds a year on firm Valley turf, once a season is not excessive.

Nobody walks in saying their lie angles have drifted. They walk in saying their eight iron has started going left.

Regrip service

Same day on most jobs if you drop off before noon. We solvent-strip, inspect the shaft under the old grip — which is where rust and tape residue hide — re-tape to your logged build-up, and install. Your file records the tape wrap count per hand so a regrip never silently changes your grip diameter.

We stock a working range rather than a wall. If you want something we do not hold, order lead time is usually under a week.

Structural repair

Loose heads, rattles, cracked ferrules, shaft pulls, broken tips still seated in a hosel, adjustable sleeve resets, and grip-end damage. Assessment is free and takes about ten minutes at the counter. Ansel will tell you when a repair is not worth doing, which happens more often with older graphite than people expect.
